The IELTS test is intended for those candidates who wish to study, work in or migrate to a country that has English as their first language. IELTS is compulsory for those candidates who are non- native English speakers. IELTS test has 4 sub modules: – reading, writing, speaking and listening. In each of these modules, the candidate will be scored on a band scale. The higher the score, higher is your level of expertise in that particular section of the language. There is a certain minimum score that a candidate needs to secure now to apply for Canada student visa. This minimum score for IAS is determined by the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB).
For undergraduate courses, the candidate needs to score a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four sub modules of IELTS and an aggregate score of 6. In order to obtain a Canadian student visa for post graduates courses the candidate needs to secure at least 6 in each other for sub modules and an overall minimum score of 6.5.
If a candidate has the above mentioned scores, then the candidate has fulfilled Canadian student visa IELTS requirements (2019) and is eligible to apply for the same.
IELTS Score Requirement for Canada Immigration
IELTS is one of the main pre-requisites to apply for permanent residency in Canada. The standards used for measuring the proficiency by Canada in English language are termed as Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). These benchmarks varies from 1 to 12, with each score being equivalent to a particular score for IELTS in speakin,g listening, writing and reading sections. Please refer to the following table.
